Bedroom: what a handyman does
Bedroom work is mostly safety and wear: dressers and TVs that need anchoring, closet doors off their track, window coverings with cords and nail holes behind headboards. A handyman can assemble and anchor furniture, rehang doors, install cordless blinds and patch and paint. Wiring and ceiling fan boxes go to licensed electricians.

What is not a handyman job
New outlets, wiring, ceiling fan boxes and hardwired smoke or carbon monoxide alarms are electrical and go to licensed independent contractors. Window replacement, changing a window for egress, moving walls and structural repairs are out of scope. Stains from a roof or plumbing leak need that leak fixed first.

Common questions
Do I still need to anchor a new dresser?
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises anchoring TVs and furniture such as bookcases and dressers to the wall. A federal stability standard for dressers has applied since September 2023, but the CPSC still urges anchoring. We anchor into studs where we can.
Are cordless blinds really necessary?
The CPSC says cordless window coverings are the safe choice wherever young children are present, and that tying cords up high or using cleats is not enough. If you keep corded blinds, it advises shortening the cords, anchoring looped cords and moving cribs and beds away from windows.
Can you fix a closet door that keeps coming off its track?
Usually, yes. The cause is typically a worn pivot, guide or track, or a door that is no longer square. We check the hardware, replace worn parts and rehang the door. If the door itself is warped or the opening is out of square, we will say so up front.
Can you hang a heavy mirror over a bed?
Yes. We find the studs, choose hardware rated for the weight and level the piece. Over a bed, we recommend a stud-mounted hanging method rather than adhesive strips or small anchors. A very large or heavy piece may need a second person, so tell us the size when you book.
