Daycare Centers: what a handyman does
A handyman can handle small safety and maintenance jobs at a daycare: securing shelving and furniture to walls, fixing door hardware, patching walls and assembling storage. Work should be scheduled with the director. Licensing, background-check and facility rules are set by the state and local authority, and Enhaus makes no claim about meeting them.

What is not a handyman job
Licensing, background-check and facility rules for child care centers are set by the state and the local authority, not by a handyman. The Illinois Department of Early Childhood says it became lead agency for child care licensing on July 1, 2026, so ask it and your local authority what applies to your center. Enhaus makes no claim about meeting those rules. Plumbing, electrical and roofing go to licensed contractors, and remodels and structural work are out of scope.
Plumbing, electrical and roofing go to licensed independent contractors.
What a visit looks like
- You send photos, the address and what the director allows for timing. Work should be scheduled with the director, and we do not assume any hours. Ask us to confirm.
- We look at the repair on site, say which part is ours and which belongs to a licensed trade, and agree the scope before starting.
- We keep the work area tidy, and you decide which rooms are closed off during the work.
- If your center, landlord or licensing contact has vendor requirements, tell us up front so we can say whether we can meet them.
Common questions
Do you meet Illinois daycare licensing rules?
Enhaus makes no claim about meeting them. Licensing, background-check and facility rules are set by the state and the local authority. The Illinois Department of Early Childhood says it became lead agency for child care licensing on July 1, 2026, so ask it and your director.
Who should schedule the work?
The center director. They know nap times, drop-off and pickup, and which rooms can be closed. Send the job with your preferred windows and we will confirm what is possible rather than assume any hours.
Can you anchor furniture to the wall?
Yes, we can secure bookcases, cubbies and shelving to walls using fasteners suited to the wall type. If studs or masonry are not where we need them, we will say so before starting rather than guess.
What should I send?
Photos of each item, the address, the room names and the times the director can offer. If your center asks vendors for a certificate of insurance or other paperwork, ask what is needed and tell us so we can say whether we can meet it.
